1. Basics

Switch Setup

Only the common settings you usually need first.

Quick mode

Hostname CLI prompt name. Management VLAN Creates `interface vlan X`. Management IP IP on the management SVI. Mask Subnet mask for the SVI. Gateway Default gateway for switch management.

Advanced switch options

Domain Name Useful for SSH key generation. Local Username Used for `login local`. Local Password Local secret for the username.

Enable SSH VTY lines accept SSH only. VTP Transparent Keeps VLAN control local. Rapid PVST Faster spanning tree convergence. Global PortFast Turns PortFast on for edge access ports. Global BPDU Guard Protects PortFast ports. Password Encryption Obscures passwords in config.
